On March 5, 2026, the joint groundbreaking ceremony for the “University of Tsukuba IMAGINE THE FUTURE. Forum” was held.
On the day, under clear skies, a Shinto-style ceremony was solemnly conducted, and after the ritual of breaking ground and offering Tamagushi, greetings were delivered by the related parties.
This ceremony was attended by 26 people in total, including University President NAGATA, the vice presidents, other university officials, designers and supervisors, and contractors.

‘The “IMAGINE THE FUTURE. Forum” is a facility aimed at maximizing the advantages of being located in the Tsukuba Science City and promoting large-scale collaborative research between companies and the university.
This facility aims to solve the challenges faced by companies and society through the comprehensive research capabilities that demonstrate the interdisciplinary nature characteristic of the University of Tsukuba, and to link the results to social implementation.
By establishing this innovative building for industry-academia collaboration, we hope to create new social values and shape the future.’

‘IMAGINE THE FUTURE. Forum’ Perspective View Drawing
The ‘IMAGINE THE FUTURE. Forum’ is planned to be developed as a joint research hub led by companies, with a total of three research buildings available for company use, ranging from wet labs for chemistry and biotechnology to dry labs for AI (Artificial Intelligence) and software, supporting research and development in diverse fields.
Additionally, the facility includes open space, promoting industry-university interactions that lead to new innovations by taking advantage of its central location in the Tsukuba Center Area, where the “Super City Concept” is being promoted. This is expected to contribute to returning university knowledge to society and supporting the business growth of companies.
